The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Sector Command, said the command has recorded a notable decline in road crashes, fatalities, and severity, with incidents involving tanker trucks witnessing a significant reduction.
Sector Commander, Babatunde Farinloye, stated this in Lagos during the unveiling of its newly-built Sector Command Office Complex Extension donated by Axxela Limited.
The commissioning ceremony, attended by distinguished guests and stakeholders, served as a platform to highlight remarkable road safety milestones achieved by the command.
Farinloye revealed that during his tenure, available statistics indicated that crash, fatality and severity declined by 29.86 per cent, 24.86 per cent and 32.89 per cent respectively. Incidents involving tanker trucks dropped by 36.36 per cent while fatalities dropped by 62.43 per cent, he stated.
These figures, he emphasized, were a testament to the effectiveness of the Corps’ operations and strategic interventions.
He however stated that speeding, aggressive and distracted driving as well as driving under the influence (DUI) remains critical issues that must collectively be addressed going forward.
He expressed profound appreciation to Axxela Limited, led by Bolaji Osunsanya, for their visionary leadership and commitment to societal well-being.
Farinloye emphasized the significance of the office complex, noting its pivotal role in facilitating the Corps’ mandate of creating safer roads for Lagosians and Nigerians alike.
In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer, Axxela, Bolaji Osunsanya, said safety is not just a concept but a fundamental role it plays in human lives.
Osunsanya described the donation of the complex as a modest contribution to the FRSC.
He said the donation is a testament to when the public and private sectors collaborate for a shared vision.
“We are optimistic that this donation will stand as a constant reminder of the company’s commitment to road safety,” he said.
Representative of the Corp Marshal, Dauda Biu, Assistant Corp Marshal Hyginus Omeje seized the opportunity to call for a paradigm shift in the behaviour of FRSC officers towards road users emphasizing the need for mutual respect and service orientation.
“If we improve our attitude towards road users, we stand to receive more CRS from the private sector as the Federal Government is already overstretched” he explained.
