Lagos transport policy aimed at sustainable practices –Sanwo-olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has the state Transport Policy launched during the week is aimed at ensuring sustainable practices within the transportation sector.


Speaking at the unveiling of the transport policy in Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, said that the state is laying down a comprehensive framework that will guide the continued development and regulation of the transportation sector.

“This policy encompasses the Integrated Multi-Modal Transport Systems that ensures seamless connectivity between road, rail, and water transport modes. It will also encourage sustainable practices by promoting environmentally friendly transportation options to reduce our carbon footprint.


“We are committed to implementing rigorous safety protocols to protect our commuters. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, we aim to enhance traffic management and service delivery. Our goal is to ensure that the transportation system remains accessible and affordable for all residents, including the elderly and those with disabilities.”

While noting that the policy is not just a document; he said that it is a roadmap to a brighter, more effective and efficient, sustainable future for Lagos, reflecting its vision of where transportation is no longer a challenge but a seamless experience that enhances the quality of life for all our residents.


On his part, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi stated that transportation is the backbone of any thriving metropolis, and Lagos, as Africa’s largest city and economic hub, is no exception.

“Our roads, waterways, railways, and air routes are the arteries through which the lifeblood of our city flows, connecting communities, facilitating commerce, and enabling progress.

“As we unveil our Transport Policy, it is imperative that we chart a course that not only addresses the challenges of today but also lays the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous tomorrow.

“The Lagos State Transport Policy represents a bold step forward in our collective efforts to transform the way we move people and goods within our city.”

Osiyemi said that the policy was crafted through extensive consultation with stakeholders, experts, and citizens, reason the policy embodies a commitment to innovation, efficiency, and inclusivity in all aspects of transportation planning and management.
