In fulfilment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s pledge to complete all ongoing housing projects in the state, preparations for the commissioning of the Egan–Igando Mixed Housing Estate are now in top gear.

The Commissioner of Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, in an earlier interview with the press during a site inspection of the estate in Ikotun – Igando Local Council Development Area of the state, said that the estate will be commissioned by the first week of June 2024, and keys will be handed over to the homeowners after 21 years of the project’s commencement.

Akinderu-Fatai noted that the housing estate, which is a critical project, aims to provide affordable and quality housing for the people of Lagos.

Despite facing numerous setbacks and challenges, including large-scale vandalism and theft, the commissioner said the state government is committed to delivering this vital project to the people, hence the strategy of completion by cluster arrangements.

“We are thrilled to finally break through the barriers that have held us back for so long with the delivery of the first cluster comprising 270 homes,” said Akinderu-Fatai.

Also at the site, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, AbdulHafis Gbolahan, stated that the preparation process had been completed by May 31, 2024, paving the way for the official unveiling of the Estate on June 6, 2024.

He charged all stakeholders, including contractors and community members, to work together to ensure a smooth and successful delivery.

The Permanent Secretary further expressed gratitude for the patience, understanding, and trust shown by the prospective homeowners who waited for many years for the completion of the Housing scheme.
“We are confident that the result will be well worth the wait,” said Toriola.

Also joining the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, and Permanent Secretary, AbdulHafis Gbolahan Toriola during the site inspection are the Director of Public Affairs of the Ministry, Mrs. Adeola Salako, the Director of Engineering Services, Bolarinwa Kazeem, the Director of Architectural and Building Services, Ibrahim Olusegun, and the Director of Quantity Surveying Department, Mr. Hakeem Ilesanmi.
