Prof. Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya

Lagos State University Of Science And Technology (LASUSTECH) said that it has got the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run 37 academic programmes.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, who disclosed this, during a briefing, also said that 1850 students had been admitted as pioneering students for the 37 approved courses from the over 16,000 students that applied.

According to him, the 1850 students were admitted in compliance with NUC’s directive that each of its 37-degree programmes should not admit more than 50 students. He added that plans are on to hold the matriculation ceremony this month.

“The admission exercise has been very transparent. New students are resuming now. We expect about 1,850 students. We thank both NUC and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for their support.”

According to Odusanya, the focus of the institution’s administration is in six strategic initiatives with the acronym IMPACT. He said that I-stands for Infrastructural development across our three campuses; M- stands for Manpower development with the goal of adequate attention paid to training and retraining development of the human resource of the university.

He further said that P stands for Prosperity and property of both staff and students; A – A strong University culture of academic excellence, discipline, transparency and best practice; C – Catalyst to the Lagos State agenda, while T is about town and gown partnership in the context of entrepreneurial university.

“Funding is key to the success of any university. Government alone cannot bear the burden. Tertiary education is very expensive. We appreciate the huge investment by the government. We call on philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to partner with us to support this new university.

“Such partnerships can be in the endowment of professorial chairs, lecture halls, donation of books, equipment, laboratories and computers. We would be accountable and give best value to all the resources given.

“I call on all and sundry to join hand with us to raise the banner of Lagos State University of Science and Technology, the university of excellence higher and higher,” Odusanya stated.
