Lawyers decry murder of varsity Don, demand justice

Prof. Yinka Olomojobi

Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Epe Branch, have decried the gruesome murder of Prof. Yinka Olomojobi, describing it as inhumane.

Olomojobi, a professor of human rights and gender law at Babcock University was reportedly shot dead on April 19, by some gunmen at the Ajadeh Event Centre, along Iperu-Sagamu Road, Iperu Remo, in the Ikenne Local Council of Ogun State.

The gunmen, numbering about eight and dressed in black, reportedly stormed the lounge of the event centre and shot Olomojobi for allegedly resisting abduction.

Chairman, NBA Epe branch, Omotayo Omosehin, at a press conference, said the association was in pain over the sudden death of its member, and demanded that justice should be served.

He lamented the proliferation of arms and attendant insecurity in the country. He disclosed that petitions had been sent to the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State; Director of State Services (DSS), Ogun State; Inspector General of Police; the Attorney General of Ogun State; and the President, demanding justice.

He said the association alerted them on the precarious security situation Nigerians now live with, adding that no response has been received.

“The police have picked up one Awada Ishaya from Plateau State as a prime suspect in the sordid act. Ishaya was said to have just been employed two weeks earlier as a security guard when the event centre was opened,” he said.

The lawyers demanded the prosecution of any persons linked to the murder of their member. They also called on the government, particularly the Ogun State Commissioner of Police to ensure the killers are arrested and brought to book.
