Lawyers mourn demise of Akeredolu, describe him as strong-willed

The legal community has continued to mourn the death of former Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), describing him as fearless, feisty, God fearing and strong-willed man whose legacies would live after him for a very long time to come.

In his tribute, former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Augustine Alegeh (SAN) said the late governor was firm in his beliefs and resolute in his convictions.

“He spoke his mind always and always spoke the truth to power. He was a hardworking and brilliant lawyer, a committed rights activist, a firm believer in the rule of law and a consummate Bar man. He served the NBA well.

“His foray into national politics elicited mixed reactions, given his principled and disciplined disposition. That he was able to make a success in his foray into politics was not a surprise as I knew him as a dogged fighter who would conquer all before him, notwithstanding the challenges,” he said.

Alegeh added that the late governor arrived at the apex of service of the NBA as President between 2008 and 2010.

“In politics, he peaked and attained the top status of a two-time Governor of Ondo State. Certainly, he was a successful and fulfilled man.”Also, a senior lawyer, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) described the late former governor as a strong-willed man who spoke what he meant and meant what he said in every respect.

In his tribute, the Senior Advocate said as a former attorney general of Ondo State, he made his mark as the chief law officer of the State.

As former President of NBA, he initiated programmes which sought to promote the interest of the Bar, he said.

“At a very critical period when tough decisions needed to be taken in the interest of peace and security of Ondo State, he was not found in the company of timid and timorous souls. Rather, he stood firmly for the promotion of internal security of the State,” Oyetibo said. The lawyers wished the late governor eternal rest.
