LEAMSP Exam: A benchmark for Muslim schools and others

The League of Muslim School Proprietors (LEAMSP), held its yearly mock examinations (LEC) on March 2, 2024. The Registrar, Yekini Raji, expressed satisfaction with the proceedings which echoed the meticulous planning and dedication to excellence imbued in the exercise. With centres spanning Mushin to Ikorodu in Lagos, as well as across Ogun, Oyo, and Kwara states, the geographical reach of the Council underlines its commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.

“LEAMSP Examinations Council (LEC), is one of the of LEAMSP measures to coordinate the activities of Muslim school proprietors in Nigeria. It is used as a benchmark for our schools, to monitor their compliance with the national curriculum,” he said.

Approximately 5000 primary 6 pupils participated in the LEC examinations simultaneously across Lagos, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states. The examination comprised two distinct parts: Paper 1 encompassing Mathematics, Quantitative Reasoning, and Islamic Studies; while Paper 2 featured English, Verbal Reasoning, and General Studies (encompassing subjects like Basic Science, Physical and Health Education, Home Economics, ICT, and Civic Education).

The LEC, a two-part examination encompassing a spectrum of subjects from Mathematics to Islamic Studies, exemplifies the holistic approach to education championed by LEAMSP. Offering both Paper and Pencil (PPT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) modes, the LEC not only evaluates academic prowess but also prepares students for the digital demands of the modern world.

At the heart of the LEC lies a dedication to upholding academic integrity. The Registrar emphasized the exam’s role in maintaining standards across member schools, leaving no room for compromise or malpractice. Moreover, the exam serves as a gateway for students, offering pathways to secondary education within member schools and providing invaluable preparation for statutory examinations.

He remarked that member schools that offer secondary education use the result of this examination as part of their admission requirements. Once a pupil participates in the examination, passes, and meets the required percentage set by each school, they are admitted.

And for those pupils who plan to attend a public secondary school, this examination serves as a mock exam for them. We have deliberately scheduled it at a time when all other entrance examinations follow. This strategic timing allows schools to utilize the results – usually released within a week of the examination – to adequately prepare pupils for subsequent statutory examinations.

The annual training for the LEC workers underscores the zero-tolerance policy toward examination malpractice. The true essence of a school is reflected in its results, and maintaining integrity during examinations is paramount.

The journey of the LEC, which commenced in 2004, stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of LEAMSP to educational advancement. With plans underway to extend its reach to all corners of the nation, the LEC promises to remain a beacon of opportunity and excellence for generations to come.

In a world brimming with challenges, the success of the 2024 LEC serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration. Through dedication, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, LEAMSP and its affiliated schools pave the way for a brighter future, one student at a time.

In summary, maintaining integrity, rigorous preparation, and familiarity with past questions are essential for success in academic assessments. Let us continue to uphold these standards and foster a culture of integrity in education.
