LG Polls: Hoodlums attack OYSIEC office, injure policeman

Some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs, yesterday, attacked the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) office in Okeho, Kajola Council of Oyo State.


A police officer was reportedly injured during the attack but all the election materials, sensitive and non-sensitive materials were intact.

Also, about 12,000 combined security personnel have been deployed to fortify operations during and after the conduct of council elections today in all the 33 councils of the state.

These were disclosed at a joint press briefing addressed by the police, sister agencies, OYSIEC and other relevant stakeholders at the State Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan.


Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, disclosed that out of over 12,000 deployed security agents, 8,000 are from the police, 2,125 from sister agencies while remaining are from other agencies excluding the military.

The CP, while confirming the attack on OYSIEC at Okeho, as made known by its Chairman, Aare Isiaka Olagunju, said the command is on the trail of the invaders

The police boss, who promised to lead the security monitoring team to some parts of the state, assured residents of their safety during and after the conduct of the election.


According to him, necessary security measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free election.

He also restated that there would be restrictions of vehicular movement till 6:00 pm during which the voting exercise would last.

In his address, the Chairman of OYSIEC, Olagunju, expressed dismay over the activities of the suspected hoodlums that invaded Okeho office of OYSIEC.

He added that none of the election materials were tampered with during the attack.

Olagunju said the commission is fully prepared for the election.
