Ladies, the corset is back in all its glory. So, if you are yet to own at least one corset dress, our best advice for you would be to grab your purse and visit the nearest clothing store.
From fashion runways to social media feeds, the corset has proven several times that it is here to stay. Dating back as far as the Victorian era when it was a staple in every woman’s wardrobe, the corset is one of the few clothing items that properly celebrates a woman’s body.
While the trend was already popularised in most European countries, it took a while before finding its way to Africa. Upon its arrival, Nigerian designers were quick to put a creative spin on it by creatively merging it with local fabrics and styles.

In case you find yourself debating if you should jump on this trend, here are four reasons to convince you.

Accentuate your figure
As mentioned earlier, the corset celebrates a woman’s body. Wearing a corset allows your body the opportunity to be shaped into an hourglass figure, positively highlighting body assets like your breasts and bum.

Helps with back support
Yes, you read right. While the corset is known for its fashion prowess, it also boasts of a health benefit. Thanks to the structure of the lace-up corset, the tightness allows you to stand straight, eliminating the possibility of a hunched back.
In the long run, the more you wear it, the closer you are to attaining good posture.

It makes you feel sexy and powerful
Nothing screams sexier than a corset. If you doubt it, just try wearing a corset dress and walking past your crush or a random male stranger. Trust us, neither of them would be able to keep their eyes off you. Also, the corset instils a sense of confidence in you, making you feel like you can accomplish anything.

It beautifies the dress
The best way to explain this is by asking you to imagine a strapless corset dress filled with stone on its bodice, and made from an aqua lace material. Their versatility allows them to enhance the look of a simple top, mini dress, wedding gown, or most especially a traditional outfit.
However, have it at the back of your mind that wearing corsets should be done in moderation, and if at any point you feel uncomfortable, remove it.
