Lover’s day isn’t just for the lovers anymore, and now you and your gal pals can enjoy it.

Also doubling as a day for women to celebrate their friendships, Galentine’s Day gets its name from season 2 episode 16 of hit comedy series Parks and Recreation

In the film’s episode, Poehler’s character Leslie Knope describes Galentine’s as “What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas.”

So while there are no rules for Galentine’s, here are five tips to having the best Galentine’s Day:

  • Drink Some Wine:

The first rule of any girl’s day out has to be an abundance of wine. I’m sorry, but is it even Galentine’s without glasses of red wine finding their way into your belly? NOPE!

Spice up the mix with some homemade cocktails.

  • Have A Guest List

The only way to enjoy Galentine’s to the fullest is to spend it with your favourite gal pals because we all know just how tricky navigating female friendships can be.

So you definitely have a guest list full of women down to have fun and ready to foster great conversations.

  • The Menu:

Whatever you do, make sure you pick the best restaurants for brunch, or if everyone brings a meal, be precise with food options and have everyone choose from a list. Remember to have desserts and cake because Galentine’s would be incomplete without something sweet.

  • Gift Exchange:

Another very important tip, since it’s the season of love gifts, exchanges shouldn’t be left out. So get each of our gal pals to pick a Galentine and gift them something nice. Trust me; they’ll most definitely appreciate the thought.

  • Great Movie Choices:

Another great way to celebrate Galentine is to pick out some great women films for you and your gals to see.

Our picks; Bridesmaids, Booksmart, Mean Girls, Girls Trip, Bad Moms, Clueless, Hustlers, Bring it On, Legally Blonde and Thelma & Louise.
