As Nigerians worldwide jubilate the win of Nigeria over South Africa in a 2-1 defeat in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the losing country is not as joyful.

One of the people who has reacted to the match is South African rapper, AKA who took to his Twitter page and shared in a series of tweets that the match was bigger than football.

Ranting about his country’s national football team, Bafana Bafana’s loss to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the quarter-finals match, AKA wrote,

“Apparently, the dollies are saying … “but if Nigeria loses, who’s gonna buy the champagne?! I’m f*cking gutted. I’m hurt man. This match was bigger than football. The biggest rivalry on the continent. Why do we always have to lose against Naija at EVERYTHING. It’s a hard pill to swallow man. We keep on losing to Nigeria in every way. We should have just lost to Egypt … rather than Nigeria.”

Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze scored the opening goal of the match that took place at  Cairo International Stadium yesterday, July 10. An equalizing goal came through from the side of the Bafana’s thanks to Bongani Zungu but it was Guardian Life cover star, William Troost-Ekong, who scored the deciding goal to tip the favour to Nigeria’s side.

Nigeria will meet the winner of Algeria vs Ivory Coast in the semifinal of the championship as they hope to win their fourth AFCON title.
