In a bittersweet moment for millions of fans worldwide, all seven members of the global phenomenon BTS have officially begun their mandatory military service. This marks the culmination of a long-awaited and anticipated transition for the group, as they fulfill their duty to their country.

Following the enlistment of Jin, J-Hope, and Suga earlier this year and last year, the remaining four members – RM, Jimin, Jungkook, and V – officially joined the South Korean military on December 11th and 12th, 2023. While specific details regarding their assignments remain confidential, the members are expected to serve for approximately 18 months each.

The news of BTS’s full enlistment has sparked a range of emotions among fans, with many expressing sadness at the temporary hiatus but also unwavering support and pride for their dedication to fulfilling their national duty. Social media platforms have been flooded with messages of love and encouragement for the members, highlighting the immense impact they have had on millions of lives.

Enlistment Dates:

Jin: December 13, 2022
RM: December 11, 2023
Suga: September 22, 2023
J-Hope: April 18, 2023
Jimin: December 12, 2023
V: December 11, 2023
Jung Kook: December 12, 2023

BTS is expected to reunite around 2025 after their members finish mandatory military service. The decision ends a year-long debate about whether BTS should be exempt. All able-bodied men in South Korea must enlist by 30, but some exceptions exist for athletes and musicians. Pop stars aren’t exempt, leading to controversy over BTS’ contributions to the economy.

In 2020, the law was revised to allow artistic icons to delay service until 30, but it stopped short of exempting them. The government faces pressure not to broaden exemptions, as many question the system’s fairness.
