The retro days of urban roller skating of the 70s, have made a huge comeback in the black community, with the new generation of Tiktokers re-imaging the glory days by learning how to skate with intricate dance moves.

Disney is bringing back the popularity of this rockin’ style with the premiere of their new series, Saturdays starring Black Widow Nigerian actress Danielle Jalade. Executively produced by Marsai Martin, Jalade leads the show as “Paris Johnson”; an enthusiastic roller skater who loves to spend the weekends with her skate crew practicing and working hard to win “The Goldies” at their local skating rink, Saturdays.

Also including Omar Gooding and Golden Brooks, the show excels at showcasing the modern-day black family through its innovative scenes and beautiful imagery. The show not only breaks stereotypes but is a great representation of black culture through the world of roller skating.
