Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is making global moves again, this time with French President Emmanuel Macron.
In a post shared by the singer on his X (formerly Twitter) page today, Thursday, October 23, 2025, Davido wrote, “It was an honor meeting @EmmanuelMacron and sharing our visions for a better world 🇳🇬🇫🇷.” The post was accompanied by photos of him and the French President smiling warmly during their meeting, which quickly attracted thousands of likes and comments from fans.
The post drew mixed reactions from fans with some praising the singer for representing Nigeria on a global stage, while others criticised the visit and questioned the idea of sharing a “vision for a better world” with a Western leader.
A user, @yvonnebetek, commented, “Vision for a better world with an oppressor.” Another user, @rosie_martinee, said, “This is not a flex. France is still practicing modern-day colonization on some African countries.”
However, many others defended Davido, describing him as the most influential African artist of his generation.
@abazzwhyllzz wrote, “Is there any other musician in Africa that can meet the French president in his house? Na why you be GOAT, no worry.”
@Dhavidote added, “Casually meeting with the President of the French Republic is insane motion sha. 001 for a reason.”
@Prof_Micheal, on the other hand, appeared unimpressed, saying, “You went to take pictures just like every other people take pictures with him. Take this to Facebook.”
Despite the divided opinions, the meeting highlights Davido’s global reach beyond music. His influence has extended into politics, philanthropy, and youth empowerment in Nigeria.
It’s not the first time Davido and Macron have crossed paths. The French President previously met the singer in Lagos during the 2018 African Cultural Season event at the New Afrika Shrine, where Macron expressed admiration for Nigeria’s growing cultural influence.
This latest meeting further reinforces Davido’s image as a cultural ambassador for Africa.
Meanwhile, Davido was appointed as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund on Wednesday, October 22. The appointment was made by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is also Davido’s uncle.
The Sports Trust Fund is aimed at developing sporting talent and infrastructure in the state.
Following the appointment, Davido expressed his commitment to supporting sports development and creating opportunities for young athletes in Osun.
