Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, as governor of Osun State.

Davido shared his reaction on Sunday, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of Saturday’s governorship election.

In a post on X, the singer wrote, “WE DID IT UNC !!! @aadeleke_01.”

The post was accompanied by a video showing Davido watching the announcement of the election result on television with members of his team.

As the Returning Officer formally declared Adeleke the winner, Davido jumped from his seat, went on his knees and eventually lay on the floor in celebration.

Members of his team immediately joined him, while his aide, Israel DMW, could be heard saying, “Congratulations boss.”

Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party and polled 511,067 votes.

His closest challenger, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, secured 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress finished third with 17,180 votes.

The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, announced the result at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo early on Sunday.

Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured the remaining 11, according to the final results.

The declaration handed Adeleke another four-year term as governor.

Davido had played a prominent role in his uncle’s campaign, attending rallies and using his social media platforms to mobilise young voters.

The singer served as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council and reportedly suspended parts of his music schedule to focus on the election.

In the days leading to the poll, Davido repeatedly called for a peaceful election and urged voters to reject violence and intimidation.

He also remained active online throughout election day, monitoring developments and questioning the delay in uploading polling unit results to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal.

At 2:33 pm on Saturday, Davido wrote, “INEC, it is now 2:33 p.m., yet no result has been uploaded to the IReV portal. What is the delay? Nigerians deserve transparency and timely updates.”

He later asked voters to remain at their polling units until their results had been uploaded.

“Make sure your polling unit results are uploaded on IReV in your presence and make sure the figures are entered on eEC8A (electronic EC8A). We will follow our votes bumper to bumper!” he said.

In another post, he added, “Don’t leave your polling unit until it is being uploaded on the IReV, protect your vote now.”

Davido also encouraged voters to photograph their polling unit result sheets and submit them through a WhatsApp number he shared.

Adeleke first became Osun governor after winning the 2022 election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He later left the PDP and joined the Accord Party in December 2025 before seeking another term.

Davido has supported his uncle through several political contests, using his popularity and large online following to draw attention to Adeleke’s campaigns.
