South African award-winning disc jockey and record producer DJ Maphorisa has spiked up many fuses online after hinting at partnering with Nigerian veteran artists Burna Boy and Davido for the upcoming 2022 Ama Fest which has been situated to take place in Britain.

The Ama Fest is a shortened word for AmaPiano festival which has been dominating and uniting several African top artists and this time we can get to see AKA and Burna perform together after their beef some year ago. The festival will take hold in the UK around December and will be attracting other top artists from all over the world.

In Phori’s recent tweet, he hinted about not being the gatekeeper of the amapiano movement and attributed all accolades to his music partner Kabza De Small who has notably been considered by many as the King of Amapiano, though several artists have disagreed to that claim, as it’s believed he self-proclaimed himself as the king without any voting.

The genre has been reportedly originated from South Africa in 2012, but then was just an instrumental which is a hybrid of Afro House music, jazz and soulful house music which was often played by DJ Duo named MFR Souls. It took a different turn later around 2019 with the help of DJ Mahorisa after his partnership with Kabza De Small and they began to experiment with the sound over some vocals, thus originating “Sponono” hit track where the duo partnered with Burna Boy, Wizkid and Cassper Nyovest, and since then the duo have been championing the piano movement within and outside the country.

Earlier this year, Davido and Burna boy also opened up on a massive collaboration with top piano record producers in Mzansi, and insisted they must drop at least 5 tracks which will include top artists like Nkosazana Daughter, Mr JazziQ, Young Stunna and Daliwonga. Since then fans have been mouth-wagging at the feeling that the tracks will be making the light of the day real soon.

The Ama Fest will also house some notable UK artists who have been spreading the gospel of the genre, and will also serve as a massive boost for upcoming artists as they will get to perform alongside their role models. The festival will take place in 4 different locations including the South of England Showground and might serve as one of the biggest events this year.
