Billboard has named the American rapper, Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, better known as Doechii, its 2025 Woman of the Year.
This was announced by Billboard on March 10, 2025, that she will be honoured at an event set in March this year.
A rising star in the rap scene, Doechii has gained widespread popularity with her viral hits No Scrubs and Denial Is a River, the latter peaking at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In January, she won her first Grammy for Alligator Bites Never Heal, which took home Best Rap Album—making her only the third woman in Grammy history to win the category. That same night, she made her electrifying Grammys debut with a performance of Denial Is a River and Catfish.

The Tampa-bred artist has landed five songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including Balloon and ExtraL, collaborations with Tyler, the Creator and Jennie, respectively.
Doechii was previously recognised by Billboard in 2023 when she received its Music Rising Star award. She now joins Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande as one of the few women to progress from that honour to Woman of the Year.
In a statement, Billboard’s editor-in-chief, Hannah Karp, praised Doechii’s “ultra-candid lyrics and utterly unique sound, style, and spirit.”
Past recipients of the Woman of the Year honour include SZA, Billie Eilish, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.
At Billboard’s 2025 Women in Music event, where Doechii will be celebrated, several other awards will also be presented. Jennie will receive Songwriter of the Year, Erykah Badu will be honoured with the Breakthrough Award, and Meghan Trainor will take home this year’s Hitmaker Award.
The event will also feature performances from Ángela Aguilar, aespa, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long, and Tyla.
