Rejection is one of the most wanted fugitives in history because it has robbed many of their true worth. Naturally, it takes a lot from the human mind to accommodate rejection, and only the courageous find the strength to dust themselves up and go again.

Many have not found the antidote to it, which is believing in oneself. This reminds people of achievers who are now more popular globally than presidents of some nations but were once told they did not fit. Television executives once told Oprah Winfrey that she was not fit for the job. Beyonce Knowles was told by music promoters that she was not talented enough to be a superstar.

Sharing a post on his Instagram page to encourage those who have found themselves in similar situations, tech guru and marketing communications expert, Adewale Adetona, popularly known as ISlimfit, urged the victims to grab the right opportunity and make the most of it.

Adetona, who is a UK Global Talent Visa recipient, wrote, “We regret to inform you that we will be moving on with a candidate that is more suitable and aligned. Never let these words pilot your mind into a thought process that you are less valuable. Without prior knowledge of a dollar, a hundred-dollar bill is just another piece of paper that can be squeezed and thrown away. This action does not reduce the dollar’s purchasing power.

“It takes the right person to stumble on it, take it to the right market and use it as a legal tender. Until then, it is just a paper that can be tossed around, rejected and neglected. Regardless of how many defeats, losses, and rejection you’ve experienced, you still have value; it’s all about grappling for the right opportunity and making the most of it,” wrote Adetona.

The whole essence of life, wealth or poor notwithstanding, is to live impactful lives. Adetona, who is based in the United Kingdom, is in the class of a change maker who has, ceaselessly with his resources and platforms available to him, championed the course to ensure that businesses in Nigeria drive their ideas with technology.

Adetona, who is the convener of the annual Lagos Digital Summit (LDS), with the 2022 edition scheduled to be held on November 25 at The Zone Tech Park, Gbagada, Lagos, is the host of a vlog titled, “Tech Chat with iSlimfit.”

According to Adetona, the vlog is “basically a series of YouTube chat series where I bring various people in tech—growth marketers, UI/UX designers, product managers, startup founders, mobile app developers, etc., to share their career journey, background, transitions, learnings, and general questions about their day-to-day job so that tech enthusiasts can learn from their expertise.”

Adetona added: “My desire to make an impact and contribute to the growth of upcoming tech professionals birthed the vlog. In addition, I am motivated to replicate what I do offline with Lagos Digital Summit in an online manner.”

ISlimfit, who recently bagged an MBA from Business School Netherlands, is determined to give more to Nigerian entrepreneurs, young tech start-ups and businesses this year, as he has lined up captains of industry to grace this year’s free LDS, which has positively impacted more than 5,000 businesses since its inception in 2017.

The keynote speech at the 2022 summit will be delivered by Tomiwa Aladekomo, Chief Executive Officer of Big Cabal Media. Other speakers and facilitators at the summit include: Nkem Onwudiwe, Founder, Her Network;  Tunde Onakoya, Convener of Chess in Slums;  Sherif Lanre Akinpelu, Deputy Director, Strategy & Planning at SPV Communication;  Onyedikachim Nwankwo Head of Product Marketing, Flutterwave;  Adebayo Jacobs-Amoo Founder, MyLibri Books;  Dotun Oloyede Managing Director, Rolad Properties;  Chiderah Monde Curation Desk Lead, Twitter, among others.
