Ed Sheeran celebrated his 30th birthday on Wednesday and he teased an upcoming new album.

The pop star took to Instagram to share a picture during his birthday celebrations, which featured a throwback snap of him dressed as a pirate when he was a child and a Colin The Caterpillar cake.

Ed claimed he was wearing a pirate costume while the cake had been decorated to match him.

“30 today. Thank you for all your wonderful messages, I feel very loved. Currently dressed the same as I was on my 3rd birthday about to chow down on Colin the pirate caterpillar, poor bloke,” he wrote.

Ed also told his followers he’ll be back to drop a “fourth instalment in the series” this year – a reference to his mathematics-themed album titles Plus, Multiply, and Divide.

“I’ll be back online with the 4th instalment in the series later this year, until then xx”

The 4-time Grammy-winner had previously dropped the albums Plus (+) in 2011, Multiply (x) in 2014 and Divide (÷) in 2017. With arithmetic operations as a theme for his album titles, some speculate his next release may be named “Subtract” or “Minus.”

In August 2019, Ed Sheeran announced his hiatus from music after more than 250 performances on the road. He announced he needed a break to focus on his family. The singer and his wife, Seaborn welcomed a daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.

After nearly, 18 months break from music, Ed Sheeran released “Afterglow”, on the 21st of December, 2020.
