Emoji Plate Numbers Approved In Australia
License plate personalization options in the Australian state of Queensland will soon include emojis, a move that most believe will surely be followed by other states insisting to have similar option.
“For quite some time we’ve seen that you can support your favorite team or your favorite town with a symbol on your number plate,” Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) spokesperson Dr. Rebecca Michael told 7News Brisbane Tuesday. “And using an emoji is no different.”
At first, the emoji available to be added to license plates will include a selection of five standard variants ranging from heart eyes to sunglasses. For now, adding a sad face emoji to one’s plate number won’t be an option.
Officials say that the emojis are purely decorative, i.e. not a part of the registration number that’s still required to appear on plates. Emoji plates in Queensland will be available starting at around $340 (₦123,000) on March 1st 2019.
