Factoring in the federal government’s resolve to diversify the Nigerian economy; organisers of Fashion Art Fusion have announced that a third edition of Fashion Art Fusion is underway.

Making the announcement on Monday in Lagos, Austin Aimanhku, CEO of Luzol and founder of Fashion Art Fusion said that this year’s event, billed for November, is a marriage of fashion, drama and dance, and alternative music. The event also supports the Down Syndrome Foundation.

“The whole idea was to use a popular art form to promote the less known art forms like spoken word, dance, alternative music and all that. This year, the federal government will be using the platform to promote the Wear Nigeria campaign which is hinged on its policy to diversify the economy,” he said.

From the fashion angle, Aimanhku said the textile industry has been neglected for too long.

“It was also a major source of revenue for government and for Nigerians. But today, 90% of the fabrics we use in Nigeria are imported; 80% of them smuggled. There is a part of this thing that people don’t think about, and that is the local weavers. There are weavers all over the country who are not celebrated,” Aimanhku added.

What Is”Fashion Art Fusion” About?

Speaking at the 2015 edition of Fashion Art Fusion themed;“Aficionado”, Aimanhku said Fashion Art Fusion as his creation, is meant to celebrate fashion and art. “It is a sort of a marriage of Fashion and Art. The whole idea is to take the runway from the regular runway where you just have models coming on the runway and showcasing their cloths. We want to project the Art, because of the passion I have for the Art and when I say the Art, I mean visual and performance art. Yes, because of my passion for the Art, I decided to create “Fashion Art Fusion” to celebrate the less known art form. You know if you want to do fashion, it is easy for you to get sponsors and the glamour around it, but when you are talking of spoken word like poetry or dance and alternative music, people are not really interested. So through this forum we are promoting music, dance and visual art. The music we promote is the alternative music and not the mainstream music. For us, we have a lot of talents out there doing chants and other kind of not so popular art but they are not promoted. These are very good talented people who do all forms of art. So we want to use this platform to promote them!
