The Universal Movie Awards (UNIMA) is putting finishing touches to hold its yearly international awards in Lagos for filmmakers across the globe. With the primary aim of boosting quality production, storytelling, character interpretation, directorial prowess and exceptional work in the film and television sector of the entertainment industry, the President/Founder of the award, Hope Obioma Opara, said: “Arts can be a powerful force for positive change.

They can redirect troubled teenagers, build proper self-esteem and prevent despair. By engaging young people in creative pursuits, we can help them discover their potential and contribute to a brighter world.”
Disclosing that filmmakers from different parts of the world, including Africa, have begun to submit their entries in all the categories of the award holding in November 2024 in Nigeria, Opara said that all films have equal opportunity to compete in every category and win. He enjoined filmmakers, industry professionals, corporate bodies and movie enthusiasts across the globe to join UNIMA to celebrate excellence in the movie industry in diverse areas.
Highlighting other activities of UNIMA to include the running of a Movie Academy for film, arts, culture and talent development, he said the academy was set up to nurture young talents in scriptwriting, acting, filmmaking, cinematography, directing among others.
He stated that this year’s award workshop will serve as avenue to inspire young men and women to explore their inner selves and unlock their creativity, while calling for partnerships with government agencies, corporate organisations and other movie agencies.
