The family of Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, known as Toluwanisings, has announced his death.

A statement posted on the singer’s Instagram account on Wednesday said he died in the early hours of October 14, 2026. The family did not disclose the cause of death.

The statement read, “With deep sorrow, the family announces the passing of Minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, Toluwani Gospel Music Ministry (TOGOMM), who passed away in the early hours of 14 October 2026.

“A dearly loved husband, family member, and gospel minister”

“Please keep his wife, family, and loved ones in your prayers during this difficult time.”

The family said it would announce funeral arrangements later. It did not provide a date or venue for the burial.

Bolaji was also known by the name Toluwanisings through his gospel music ministry. Guardian Nigeria previously reported on his music, including the song “My Plea”, in a 2023 report on his songs.

In July, the singer and members of his crew survived a road accident while returning from a gospel ministration. Toluwanisings shared photographs of the damaged vehicle on social media and said a fully loaded trailer had nearly crushed the vehicle carrying the team. He confirmed that he and his crew survived. Guardian Nigeria reported on the accident involving the singer and his crew.

The Convener of the Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates, Pelumi Olajengbesi, expressed distress over the singer’s death in an Instagram post, pleading for God’s mercy.

Sharing a picture of Toluwanisings, Olajengbesi wrote, “My God! What a life! No, Lord! We plead for Your mercy upon Toluwanisings.

“I am deeply troubled by the deaths of young men and women. This is not God’s plan for us.

“We say no to untimely death.”

The earlier report on the accident did not state where it happened or provide further details about the condition of the vehicle’s occupants. The family’s death announcement did not refer to the crash, and no information has been provided to link it to his death.

The family’s statement described Bolaji as a husband, family member and gospel minister. It asked the public to pray for his wife, relatives and loved ones as they mourn him.

Toluwanisings’ death adds to recent coverage of losses in Nigeria’s gospel music community. Guardian Nigeria has also reported on the deaths of gospel singers Big Bolaji and Omije Ojumi.

The family has not shared further details about the circumstances of Bolaji’s death. It said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
