IT’S another emotional rollercoaster as founder of Drama Missions Outreach International, Felix Bankole, is set to make another mark in Christian cinema with the release of The Legal Wife Season 2, which premieres today.
In the highly anticipated seasonal movie that addresses current life situations in marriage, homes with focus on love and faith, Bankole steps into the role of Joshua, alongside Kayode Babalola, who plays Clement, and Rita Bankole, who takes the lead role.
For the filmmaker, the project is more than just storytelling, it is ministry. The inspiration for the film, he explains, came directly from a spiritual burden. “The Holy Spirit inspired the message while I was having a burden for homes. I pray that the film will reveal practical ways of handling home front battles,” he said.
While many Christian films exist, Bankole believes The Legal Wife carries a unique message. “Every Christian film is unique because each has its own message for its own audience. The Legal Wife is a movie about love, trust, struggle, peace, relationships, and marriage. It reveals the battles and how to face them. The strength of the film lies in its relevance to today’s spiritual, moral, and social challenges,” he explained.
Bankole notes that the issues of immorality, divorce, and family conflict remain pressing concerns in society. “God instituted marriage, but the devil is fighting it by all means, making immorality look normal, divorce and conflicts that break homes look attractive. The Bible says God hates divorce,” he stressed, adding that the film reflects these realities while pointing audiences back to biblical truth.
According to him, the production journey was not without obstacles. Like many filmmakers, Bankole faced financial constraints. His unwavering faith kept the project alive. “The common challenge filmmakers’ face is finance, but because faith is our currency, God showed up,” he recalled.
The filmmaker hopes the new series will serve as more than entertainment, stressing that he envisions it as a tool of revival that will inspire change in homes across Nigeria and beyond. “There will be restoration in homes and better understanding among couples. It will become a tool of revival to homes and relationships,” he said.
