When David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, stepped out with his third studio album dubbed, A Better Time, in 2020, Nigerians were agog with the quality of the record, especially its collaborations. With American stars like Da Baby, Nicki Minaj, among others as guest features, fans all expected the album to chart for a very long time.

However, like his sophomore record, A Good Time, while the record flourished with Davido’s signature party vibe, it fell through the cracks, leaving Davido out of major album conversations until now. With his just-released fourth studio album, Timeless, Davido makes a noteworthy comeback, crystallizing his successful run with the ‘Time’ trilogy.

With Davido, it’s a glaring reaction to deep and continuous introspection.
Musically, it always felt like Davido had uncertainties regarding exploring his more soulful character in his music. However, in Timeless, the music mogul and artiste expands his horizon, delving into soul-focused sounds that help for catharsis.

Spanning an 11-year career, Davido has never had a line-up as stellar as this. Skepta. Angelique Kidjo. Cavemen. Musa Keys. Asake. And his new signees Logos Olori and Morravey, respectively… it’s a buffet of emotive sounds and lyrics. And it’s also a well-arranged project.

Speaking to Guardian Music, Davido explains that, “Timeless is a body of work that goes beyond fashion and trends; it’s an authentic body of work that remains true to my core as an artist- using my music to bring joy to my fans across the world. The songs you hear today will be just as relevant tomorrow, that’s why it’s TIMELESS.”

Last week Davido also announced, A Timeless Night With Davido, a one off show in London’s iconic venue, KOKO, on April 5.  Performing with The Composerz, this would kickstart the album tour run for Timeless.

After being away from public eye since his tragic experiences last year, Davido would be back on the stage in Lagos, on April 25, at Tafewa Balewa Square, for a homecoming concert.

While speculation on whether the project is sonically curated to attract global attention, it’s a no-brainer that Davido likes to take his time. And this time, he’s created something that will stand the test of time. And this is most important!
