Hwang Dong-hyuk Creates Satire From Squid Game
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Game, is working on a new satire show called ‘The Best Show on the Planet’.
In a new interview, Dong-hyuk discloses that he is not only working on season 2 of Squid Game, but also on The Best Show on the Planet, a satirical show about Squid Game’s success. While few specifics about the show are available, Dong-hyuk adds that it is still in the planning phases.
The satire is based on the success of Squid Game which debuted on Netflix last year, making a global impression and being Netflix’s most-watched original piece of entertainment.
It’s unknown what the storyline of ‘The Best Show on the Planet’ will be, or who will feature in it.
The Best Show on the Planet appears to be following in the footsteps of Squid Game, which was hailed for its social messaging. While many specifics about the Squid Game creator’s new program remain undisclosed, it’s likely that the project will return to Netflix.
The South Korean survival drama series followed the lives of a chosen few competitors who compete in a series of hazardous children’s games in order to win a substantial cash reward.
Dong-hyuk has set the ball rolling on Squid Game season 2 featuring new games, and will premiere on Netflix in 2023 or 2024.
Squid Game‘s first season hit more than 100 million homes faster than any other Netflix original show, and it was streamed for over three billion minutes in its first week.
