Nigerian singer, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has reflected on his rise in the music industry, saying his success came after years of struggle and uncertainty.
In a recent Instagram post, the 35-year-old artiste said he would have doubted anyone who told him three years ago that he would reach his current level of success.
The singer explained that he spent more than 16 years pushing his career before he eventually got his breakthrough.

“If someone had told me 3 years ago that I would become this fly, I would have argued it and now I look at my life and all I can say to someone reading this is please don’t give up. I have been in the industry hustling for 16 years and I was at my lowest when Jesus changed it all and that same Jesus is still in the business of changing lives, just believe,” he wrote.
Spyro gained wider attention after releasing ‘Who Is Your Guy’ in November 2022, a song that later became one of the standout hits in the country. He has also released songs such as ‘No Gree For Anybody’, ‘Billing’, ‘For You’ and ‘Funke’.
Over time, he has worked with notable artistes, including Tiwa Savage and Simi, as his profile in the music industry continued to grow.
In an earlier interview in 2023, Spyro also spoke about the pressure many entertainers face in their pursuit of fame, while making it clear that he could only speak for himself and his own journey.
He said he rejected suggestions that he should seek spiritual shortcuts to succeed.
He also explained that ‘Who Is Your Guy’ was first written as a love song before he decided to broaden its appeal so that more people could connect with it.
According to him, the song was inspired by the need for people to value and celebrate those who truly care about them.
On his educational background, the singer said he attended New Mainland Children’s School for his early education, went to Model College in Meiran, Lagos, for secondary school, and later studied English and Literary Studies at the University of Ibadan.
