Jason Momoa is reportedly in talks to star as the lead in Warner Bros. Minecraft Live-Action Movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor well known for his roles in many action films will join Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess in the project based on the popular video game.

Hess will direct the live-action Minecraft film, while Dune producers Mary Parent and Roy Lee will produce it.

Jill Messick will also receive a posthumous producing credit for developing the project before her death in 2018.

However, Warner Brothers are yet to set a release date for the film.

The best selling game of all time with over 238 million copies sold globally, Minecraft debuted in 2011 courtesy of Mojang Studios, which Microsoft later purchased in 2014 for $2.5 billion.

Originally the film was set to be released on May 24, 2019; however, Warner Bros. pushed the date to March 4, 2022. And the studio has once again decided to postpone its release to make way for The Batman and has yet to announce a new date for the premiere.

Despite critics of the film’s possible success or not, the success of other live-action films, such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2, put the production back on track. Starring a huge Hollywood star like Momoa as its leading character will undoubtedly boost the film’s popularity.
