Update Your Living Room with Wallpaper
I’ve always wondered why people do not use wallpapers when decorating their living spaces. Wallpaper is such a fun, simple way to jazz up and/or renovate. Paint is great, but very flat when you think about it. And, unless you are an expert, there is not a whole lot you can do with it in terms of uniqueness and being fancy.
If you need to redecorate your living room, consider these wallpaper options before reaching for a paint bucket.
- Keep It Classy with Pinstripes
Give your living room a classy, tailored, feel with pinstripes. Choose soft colours so the scheme does not look too masculine and coordinate with gold accents in your furnishings. Alternatively, you can pick one colour from your chosen wallpaper pattern as the colour scheme of the room and accessorize with that in mind.
- Mix and Match
If you are hesitant about covering your living room wall from top to bottom in wallpaper, you can take baby steps. What you can do is cover only the bottom half of your wall in wallpaper. Thinking about it, this might be a cheaper option if you are working with a theme – as you will save money on expensive wallpaper. For a more cohesive feel, paint the top half of your wall with one colour from your patter.
- Create the Illusion of Texture
This one is a personal favourite. You can create the illusion of stacked bricks with realistic-looking faux wallpaper. It works very well if you’re going for a modern, urban feel. When trying to achieve this look, it’s important to remember faux wallpapers look more striking if kept to just one feature wall. Complement with neutral furnishings and accessories.
When you feel more confident, you can also experiment with all the different types of wallpaper like fabric, grass cloth, cork, metallic and flocked, in addition to conventional paper and vinyl. Play with patterns and big motifs as well when you can. There are so many effects just waiting to be achieved.
