Lola Shoneyin, Nigerian celebrated poet, novelist and organiser of the Ake Festival has been named Literary Person Of The Year by the African literature domain Brittle Paper.

The founder of Brittle Paper, Dr. Ainehi Edoro, had this to say:

 “Both in her writing and her work as a community leader, Shoneyin tirelessly advocates for a culture of creative and critical thought,”

Shoneyin said this on Twitter after receiving the award.
 
“This is for all the people doing the important work of promoting, developing and celebrating the arts (especially literature) on the African continent. I see you. Thank you!”
