Multiple Grammy award-winning songstress, Mariah Carey in a chat with Pitchfork has opened up about her famous feud with fellow music stars, Jennifer Lopez and the late Whitney Houston.

Carey whose facial expressions and even more famous quips have become a thing of legend on social media was asked if she has seen any of her most popular GIFs.

“Some of them, yes,” she replied. “It is what it is. You have to embrace it.”

Perhaps one of her most famous lines was when Carey defiantly telling a German TV reporter “I don’t know her” when asked for her opinion of Jennifer Lopez. Clearing herself to Pitchfork about the quick moment that has become a popular pop culture meme, Carey said,

“I really was trying to say something nice or say nothing at all. I really was.”

She added that she tries to “stay away” from how everyone dissects her every word, “because you can’t drown in that.” Carey continued, “I don’t know how people read comments all the time and then survive.”

Another famous Carey relationship that tends to get overanalysed is her relationship with fellow-diva Whitney Houston, who she famously collaborated with on the 1998 film Prince of Egypt song When You Believe. Carey said,

“People tried to pit us against each other in the beginning, and I understood that, but I always recognized how brilliant she was as a singer,” Carey explained of how she really felt about Houston. “When we actually met and worked together, we had a great time together. We laughed constantly. We recognized that it’s a business, it is what it is.”

“I got her. I feel like I got her. I don’t know,” continued the Dreamlover hitmaker Carey. “I just know that the Whitney I knew was someone I looked forward to hanging out with and having a good time with. She was fun and she was real.”

The two later poked fun at the tabloid stories about their so-called feud at the VMAs that same year.

Carey is currently promoting her latest album, Caution.
