Man Faces 2750 Years Sentence For Raping Six-Year-Old Girl
A man accused of raping a six-year-old girl more than a hundred times is facing 2,750 years behind bars.
David McCutcheon, 36, was arrested last week in Cottage Grove, Oregon, United States and charged with 70 counts of rape, 40 counts of sodomy and 110 counts of criminal mistreatment in connection with the alleged abuse.
McCutcheon reportedly admitted to officers that he sexually abused the girl for years during an interview on Monday. He was arrested the following day.
Police began Cottage Grove investigating McCutcheon on May 26 when police in Eugene referred the case to them after they determined that is where the crimes took place, according to KOMO.
Under state law, McCutcheon could face 1,750 years in prison if convicted on all 70 charges of first-degree rape. He could face another 1,000 years if convicted on all 40 charges of sodomy. Criminal mistreatment in the first degree carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail, meaning McCutcheon could see his sentence increased by thousands of years if convicted on those charges.
However, prosecutors could negotiate a plea deal that could see some of the charges dismissed. A judge could also order McCutcheon to serve his prison time concurrently – at the same time – or consecutively, meaning he would have to complete one sentence before beginning another.
McCutcheon was arraigned Wednesday on eight charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy. He is currently being held in the Lane County Jail on at least 220 total charges.
David McCutcheon is set to appear in court on July 16, 2020.
