Iconic singer, Mariah Carey revealed her struggle with Bipolar Disorder in this week’s edition of the PEOPLE Magazine. She said that when she was diagnosed in 2001 (17 years ago), she found it difficult to accept the information.
She also noted that she was hospitalised for a mental breakdown and sought help after ” ‘the hardest couple of years I’ve been through’ – years of professional upheaval, an E! reality show and romantic drama”.
She told PEOPLE, “Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love — writing songs and making music.”
