Mariah Carey’s Twitter Account Hacked
Year 2019 ended in the most dramatic way for Mariah Carey as the American singer’s Twitter account was hacked on new year’s Eve.
The hijacked account which has over 21 million followers was used to post racist and pornographic messages.
“Eminem can still hold this p—-” one of the tweet from Carey’s account read.
The comment was an apparent reference to a longstanding argument between the singer and the rapper after he claimed they dated in a 2002 song.
Another tweet read that “Eminem has a little penis.”
More than 50 tweets were posted on Carey’s account after it was hijacked.
Twitter confirmed that Carey’s account had been compromised. According to a statement, the company said the compromised account has been locked.
“As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised account and are currently investigating the situation.”
The hackers claimed to be The Chuckling Squad that broke into the Twitter account of Twitter CEO Jack’s Dorsey as well as other celebrities in August.
Carey is one of the top 100 most followed Twitter accounts on the platform with more than 21 million followers.
According to Billboard, Carey is the first artist to have a No. 1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 list in four different decades thanks to her all-time winning Christmas classic “All I Want For Christmas is You“.
Mariah Carey released “All I Want For Christmas” on October 29, 1994, as the lead single from her fourth studio album and a first holiday album, Merry Christmas. The song remains Carey’s biggest international success and is the 12th best-selling single of all time, as well as the best selling Christmas single by a female artist overall.
