Music Freelance Platform Gemtracks Beats Arrives In Nigeria
Music freelance platform and beats marketplace, Gemtracks Beats, founded by DJ Jesse Neo and Milana Leybovich in 2016 in Los Angles, has gotten the greenlight to begin operations in Nigeria.
For over five years, Gemtracks Beats has been the number one website for artists to purchase instrumental beats for their songs. Gradually, it involved into a marketplace for professional music producers to sell their own beats as reported in The Jerusalem Post.
The origin of the platform started when Jesse and Milana were working as songwriters and singers in Los Angeles for brands like Disney and FOX. After Jesse’s contract ended and he became out of work in a time when entertainment jobs were highly competitive, he continued his service by selling custom beats on his website. What started as a side hustle to cover barely paying rent, quickly turned into a lucrative business.
“I was really surprised at how fast Gemtracks Beats grew,” Jesse revealed. “I was just a starving artist, barely living enough. I was also still in college. Then after a few weeks of launching Gemtracks Beats, I was making more money than I did while employed.”
One reason that could explain the sudden success may be due to the fact each beat can only be sold once, and the legal ownership is also transferred to the customer. Hence, beats could be priced higher and customers could get all potential earnings they make from the beat without having to worry about paying royalties.
A year later, Gemtracks Beats grew into a freelance platform where musicians could provide additional services such as audio mixing, session singing and even album cover art design.
“With the growing access to the internet, not only have I created a business for myself, but also for others,” Jesse reflected. “Now anyone can sign up to Gemtracks Beats and start offering their services. Right now, I am very eager to invite Nigerian musicians to join. Africa is one of my absolute most favourite places to visit, rich with culture and arts and the most beautiful people on the planet. It was a no-brainer to expand into it, and I’m starting with Nigeria.”
The best part of the platform is that Nigerians can decide how much they want to charge for their services. As more Nigerians get access to the web, freelancing has already been a growing choice of career to many.
Besides freelancing and beats, Gemtracks Beats also offers recording studios booking.
