Hold up! Take a deep breath and try picturing a world without music. Can you see it? Neither can we. Throughout the years of our lives, music has always been there; from the first time, we came out of our mother’s womb to when we achieved that milestone. Music has proven to be among the few things we can always count on to heal our hurting souls, move our bodies freely, and help us get over that recent horrible breakup with that partner who thought they were too good for us.

Speaking of horrible breakups, it’s breakfast season. While some people are busy buying gifts for valentine’s day, others are trying to recover from a breakup. Parting ways with that significant other is normal but starts to become teeny tiny abnormal when you are still hung up on his/her ex. And by “hung up,” we are talking five-ten months after the breakup.

We all know getting over an ex is quite difficult, which is why you don’t have to go through it alone. With a carefully curated playlist, we listed five songs that would help you get over your ex in this article. I call this; the GET OVER YOUR EX-ASAP playlist.

Thunder fire you

This song obviously has to be the first on our playlist. This song is relatable, giving a firsthand experience of what’s like dealing with infidelity in a relationship. It’s the kind of song that allows you to scream ‘Thunder Fire You’ to the wall, imagining your cheating ex-boyfriend/ girlfriend standing there.

Damages

Released in the year, 2020 and sung by Tems, Damages remains relevant due to the authenticity of its message. One single word to accurately describe the central message of this song is; BOY/GIRL-BYE. It basically enlightens individuals on choosing to let go of that romantic partner, and focus on themselves.

New Rules

A symptom of getting over your ex is considering getting back together with them. Dua Lipa in her 2018 hit song, New Rules, provides three rules to dismiss the idea of running back to your ex. All you have to do is follow those rules, and returning to your ex becomes history.

Not the girl

Released in the year 2009, this song immediately became a hit among Nigerians. Dare Art Alade conveys the feeling of disappointment and betrayal accurately in the tone of this song. Imagine listening to this song on a cool calm night; though you might shed a few tears, you will be glad your ex is no longer in your life.

Survivor

There is that one ex who bragged about you being unable to live without him, and this created a voice in your head, reducing your self-worth. SHUT THAT VOICE OUT with a healthy dose of Destiny child’s “Survivor.” Empowerment is a strong message embedded in this song, showing you are much better and stronger without your ex.

Here are Bonus suggestions:

Bibanke by Asa
Thank you, next – Ariana Grande
I will survive- Gloria Gaynor
We are never getting back together- Taylor Swift
Ego- Dj’inee

Looks like it’s a wrap! Hope you enjoyed reading this article? Remember whenever guys or girls choose to cut things off with you, music is always there for you.
