Nigerian singer Francis Atela popularly known as Atela has been named Male Artist of the Year at the 10th annual Made in Benue All White Party, years after his journey on Nigerian Idol brought him national attention.

Atela, who represented Benue in the sixth season of the music reality show in 2021, emerged as the first runner-up. The award was presented to him by the convener of Made in Benue, OD Woods, during the annual event celebrating the state’s creative talents.

Speaking after receiving the award, Atela said the recognition was particularly meaningful because it came from his home community.

“Being named Male Artist of the Year means a lot to me not just because of the award itself, but because of what it represents,” he said.

“To be recognised by your own people, in your own home, is something you never take for granted.”

Atela, who began singing in the church and had released music before Nigerian Idol, said the recognition would encourage him to continue creating and representing Benue on bigger stages.
