American R&B singer Chris Brown has been arrested in the United Kingdom over an alleged nightclub assault that left a music producer seriously injured.
The arrest happened on Thursday, May 15, 2025, outside the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, where the 36-year-old Grammy-winning singer was picked up by police in connection to a 2023 assault case.
According to a report by The Sun UK, the arrest is linked to an incident that occurred on February 19, 2023, at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, where Brown allegedly attacked music producer Abe Diaw.
“He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well,” Diaw told The Sun, adding that the attack was unprovoked and left him unconscious for about 30 seconds.
Police confirmed the development, saying, “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023.”
In October 2023, Diaw had already filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, claiming the singer beat him over the head with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 and continued to punch, stomp, and kick him in the back of the neck until he blacked out.
The latest arrest adds to Chris Brown’s long history of legal troubles. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to felony assault after physically attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna. Photos of the incident went viral and left a deep mark on his public image.
In 2017, another ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, was granted a five-year restraining order against him after she alleged he threatened her with violence via text messages.
As of the time of this report, Brown’s legal team has not issued any official comment. He was expected to kick off his Breezy Bowl XX Tour next month, including two concerts in Manchester to mark his 20-year career in the music industry. It remains unclear if his arrest will affect the tour dates.
