Veteran Nigerian musician, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has denied reports claiming he passed away, saying he is alive, healthy, and full of life.

Obey made this known on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, through a video posted on social media, where he addressed the false reports with a spirited gospel rendition in English, Yoruba and Pidgin.

According to him, the rumour started circulating online on Monday, causing panic among fans and followers.

In the video, the 83-year-old singer sang: “Satan, you don lose o… Na lie lie you dey talk,” before stating clearly: “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive.”

Obey’s personal assistant, Tope Olukole, also reacted to the rumour in an interview with TVC News. He confirmed that the music icon was in good health and even recently attended the 50th birthday party of his son-in-law.

“Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving!” Olukole said.

The false news of Obey’s death sparked tributes and mourning posts online until the singer debunked it himself. His public appearance came barely a month after he celebrated his 83rd birthday.
