MTV Emerges Best Music Channel at Marketing Edge Award

Music channel, MTV Base, has emerged Best Music Channel of the Year at the recently held Marketing Edge Awards Brands and Advertising Excellence Awards 2019.

Music channel, MTV Base, has emerged Best Music Channel of the Year at the recently held Marketing Edge Awards Brands and Advertising Excellence Awards 2019.

Held at the Balmoral Event Centre, Oregun, Lagos, the night of glitz, glamour and excellence had many top industry professionals in attendance. From corporate CEOs to professionals in public relations, marketing, advertising and the entire integrated marketing sector, it was a gathering of creative minds.

While receiving the award on behalf of MTV Base, Solafunmi Oyeneye, VIMNA Senior Channels Manager said, “The MTV Base team is a collective of professionals who work around the clock to ensure that we create and consistently churn out top-notch content, so to be acknowledged and honoured on a platform as reputable as Marketing Edge is a big deal to us. We would like to thank them for the honour done to us. We promise not to relent in keeping our values and standards high. Thank you.”

The award, organised by Marketing Edge Magazine, has become synonymous with celebrating the best and exemplary innovative minds in the marketing industry. Every edition of the award is accompanied by a thought-provoking theme and this year was no different.

Starting things off at the event was a keynote address delivered by Professor Sir Chris Ogbechie, the senior faculty officer at Lagos Business School, who is also an APCON Fellow. The theme for this year’s award show was Storytelling as a New Paradigm Shift in Contemporary Brand Building Convergence of Creativity and Technology.

Just recently, MTV Base announced the return of Slayed or Shade. The show, hosted by MTV Base VJ, Sammy Walsh, returns for a third season of fashion evaluation and ‘shady’ drama.

The show quickly became a fan favourite in the previous seasons as it always comes through with the hard truths of celebrity styling.

Speaking on the new season of the show, Sammy Walsh, said:

“I can’t believe that the new season is here! The team and I have worked extra hard to make this third season extra special for the viewers. If you thought our guests from former seasons had no filters, wait till you meet this season’s guests! It’s a double dose of slay and shade and I know everyone will love it.”

The new season will feature everyone from Men’s Style Blogger, Dr Akin Faminu, to Nollywood actress, Lilian Afegbai, as well as a number of other fashionista favourites. When talking about what the process of putting the show together was like, Oyeneye said, “After two successful seasons, we really wanted to do something special with this third season. We went back to the drawing board to see what was working and what we could improve on. The result is a show that I couldn’t be more proud of and I’m sure that when our viewers see what we’ve put together for them, they’ll be very pleased.”
