With Benz, Equation Billionz Steps Out Bold

As he spoke, one could see the burning passion in his eyes. The weather was calm and somewhere in the background, Mary J. Blige’s 2005 hit, Be Without You, pierced the air in the solemn Victoria Island suburbs of Lagos.

However, what stood out was the fact that this 18-year-old was, arguably, one of the biggest Burna Boy fans one has ever spoken with.

“Growing up, I was listening to Burna Boy. When he won the Grammy, it was almost like I won it too, because of the deep desire I had for him to win it,” 18-year-old Adams Effiong said.

The fast-rising Nigerian-British artiste, also famous as Equation Billions, has just released his latest single, a mellow Afro Hip-hop record dubbed, Benz, which is solidifying his emerging run in the industry.

However, the former pro-football aspirant is also fast becoming an emblem of hope for other emerging artistes striving to chase their dreams in a stifling environment.

“I was actually playing football before at the Liverpool academy, and I was training with them. But I feel like everything happens for a reason. When I started doing one more than the other, I just deviated to music and I haven’t looked back since.

“My family supported me too; they weren’t the type to dictate my future. I feel like a lot more parents should be doing that with their children.”

On how he got his name, the young lad explained that it was connected to his yearning for balance between his passions.

“For me, equations are balanced. So, for me, I feel everything in my life should be balanced. I don’t think anything is more important than the other. Billionz is already self-explanatory. My mother also had an influence in the name as well, after I had told her my reasoning.”

Billionz, who already has a streak of hit singles, including the Teni-assisted duet, Nowadays, noted that for his music the priority would remain to make impactful records.

“I am a quality over quantity person. I would rather make five good songs than have 20 songs on my system that I don’t like. So, my sound is going to be changing over the years. I am going to be talking about everything, from positivity to being happy, chasing your dreams, my life experiences, and so on.”

He also highlighted releasing more records and an extended playlist in the coming months, while his latest release, Benz is available on all digital streaming platforms.
