Nigerians have reacted to the clash between Grammy-winning singer Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, and Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti, following their heated exchange online.

The reactions intensified on Tuesday after Wizkid fired back at Seun Kuti during the sixth day of Seun’s sustained criticism of Wizkid FC and the singer himself, escalating what began as complaints about fan behaviour into a direct and personal exchange between both artistes.

Wizkid took to his Instagram Stories to address Seun directly. He wrote, “Pu**y boy @thenigbirdkuti ok i big pass your papa!!! wetin u one do? Fool at 40!

In another post, the singer added,“@bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin u wan do fool?”

The singer also shared his reaction on X, formerly Twitter, where he criticised Seun’s actions while referencing Fela’s legacy. He wrote, “Fela fight for freedom this fool Dey fight fc! Oloshi Omo ale!”

The exchange followed comments made by Seun Kuti during an Instagram Live session in which he warned Wizkid’s fanbase, known as Wizkid FC, against comparing the singer to his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Seun said, “Wizkid FC, keep Fela’s name out of your mouths. You try to claim that your fake artiste is the new Fela… It is actually an insult to compare Wizkid to Fela.”

He further accused fans of ignorance, saying, “You people have no respect. If your lack of respect came from a place of defiance, I would respect it. But your lack of respect comes from a place of ignorance.”

The Afrobeat musician also criticised constant online rivalries, adding, “Wizkid fans are online disrespecting Fela again. Why must you always involve Fela in your petty discussions?”

Seun had earlier accused Wizkid of adopting a nickname he claims to have used long before the singer’s rise to fame.
“Wizkid stole my name. Tell your fave to be original… This name has been here since. I am the first to come up with it,” he said during a livestream.

Following the public exchange, reactions poured in across X, Instagram and Facebook.

On X, @Energycrypt wrote, “Finally, BigWiz to Omo baba oni pata gigan after 6 days rants.”

@symplyDAPO added, “The moment you come for someone unprovoked, you surrender all control over how they respond. From that point on, whatever clapback follows is on you.”

However, some users criticised Wizkid’s language. Daniel Regha posted, “Wizkid u have no right whatsoever to call another human ugly… You owe whoever is being referred to a public apology.”

@_egungunn also wrote, “Wikzid, you are a legend, and this post is extremely wrong. Face Seun squarely and leave his wife out of it. Lets not set wrong standard for upcoming artists.”

Others blamed Seun for prolonging the feud.

@NuJhayhne posted, “Lmao the way this man has been quiet since. Whatever Seun sees, make he collect as he no fit shut up and move on everyday Wizkid like bro shut up nau.”

On Instagram, reactions were equally divided.
@ayabamobola wrote, “Excess of everything is bad. I love Seun but he overdid it this time.”

@meratelivinglarge commented, “This is why I’ll always love Wizkid when he talk everywhere dey shake and he go tag you let you know say na you he dey talk to.”

@king_mackymoore added, “@bigbirdkuti sir with all due respect. Your father was the great man not you… You here dragging his name in the mud. Respect is earned.”

On Facebook, several users urged both artistes to leave Fela’s legacy out of the dispute.

Amuda Oluwatosin wrote, “Fela nah big name oooo. Known worldwide without the help of social media or influencers. He was and is a legend!”

Francis Joshua Omolame added, “Abeg make una leave legend FELA out of this una trend. Seun and Wizkid make una just enter ring with boxing gloves.”
