American actor Paul Rudd has been voted People Magazine’s 2021 Sexiest Man Alive.
The 52-year old actor popular for his roles in Friends, Clueless and the Ant-Man franchise was unveiled as the Sexiest Man Alive in an extended comedy sketch of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night.
Colbert had put Rudd through a series of tests to prove his “sexiness”, including a physical exam, a Westminster Dog Show-style judging round, and photo shoots as a construction worker and monk.
These tests ended with Rudd pouring a gallon of water over his head, “Help me, I’m drowning in sexiness.”
Once the tests were done, a serious-looking Colbert informed Rudd that he had “tested negative for sexy.” However, as the actor thanked Colbert for the opportunity and began to walk away in apparent disappointment, Colbert and a roomful of people dressed in white lab coats began to clap.
“There’s nothing sexier than humility … and you passed!” Colbert said, “Paul, you’re the sexiest man alive.”
“I’m the sexiest man alive?!” Rudd exclaimed in shock as he covered his mouth before being crowned, handed flowers and a beauty-pageant banner reading, “SEXIEST MAN ALIVE.”
Speaking to People Magazine, Rudd reveals that he’s most happy at home with his wife of 18 years, Julie, 53, and their kids Jack, 17, and Darby, 12. He also revealed that his wife was the only one he had told about his new title ahead of time.
Noting that this is a life-changing opportunity for him, Rudd said he hopes he’ll be invited to “some of those sexy dinners with Clooney and Pitt and B Jordan.” “And I figure I’ll be on a lot more yachts. I’m excited to expand my yachting life. And I’ll probably try to get better at brooding in really soft light. I like to ponder. I think this is going to help me become more inward and mysterious. And I’m looking forward to that.”
“I mean, I’m going to lean into it hard. I’m going to own this. I’m not going to try to be like, ‘Oh, I’m so modest.’ I’m getting business cards made,” Rudd told the magazine.
Rudd stars in Sony’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, scheduled to be released later this month. He had also starred in Role Models, which he wrote as well and held a feature role as Mike Hannigan on the hit sitcom “Friends.”
