The Met Gala being a fundraising gala celebrates the Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s Costume Institute in New York City each year with a theme of the year’s Costume Institute exhibition, setting the tone for the dress-code for the night and guests are expected to dress to match the theme. This year, the theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology
Officially, the Met Gala is a black-tie event held every first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute (a.k.a. the fashion department), while unofficially, Monday night’s festivities in New York have been called many things, including “the party of the year,” (mostly because of the number of stars in attendance and the elaborate red carpet, in which guests pose on the grand entrance stairs to the museum).
Considering how expensive tickets are at this grand event which very well hand-picks her attendees, there’s little or no reason for the guests not to come ready to dazzle.
