South African pop star Tyla has announced that she is cancelling her world tour due to a worsening injury that has been affecting her for the past year.

The singer shared the news with her fans—Tygers—on her Instagram account on Thursday. Tyla, who rose to international fame with her hit single ‘Water’, said that she was “absolutely heartbroken” to have to make this decision, but that continuing to perform would jeopardize her long-term health and safety.

The Grammy winner did not disclose the nature of her injury but said that she had seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain had only become more agonizing.

“I am absolutely heartbroken to have to say this but as of right now, l won’t be able to proceed with the tour. In consulting with medical professionals it’s become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety,” she wrote.

The singer apologized to her fans for the inconvenience and disappointment and thanked them for their loving support, joy, laughter, and wins.

She said that her team and she were working diligently on a spectacular show for them as soon as she was recovered and ready to return safely onstage this summer.

She also said that for North American headline dates, the tickets would automatically be refunded, and for all other territories, the ticket providers would contact the fans regarding options.

Tyla’s world tour was scheduled to start on March 21, 2024, in Oslo, Norway, and end on May 28, 2024, in Minneapolis, United States. The tour was in support of her upcoming debut album, which is set to be released on March 1, 2024. The album features her latest singles, “Truth or Dare”, “Butterflies”, and “On and On”.

Tyla’s fans expressed their sympathy and support for the singer in the comments section of her Instagram post, wishing her a speedy recovery and hoping for a quick comeback. Some fans also speculated that the injury might have been caused by her intense dance routines and energetic performances.

Tyla is the first South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years, and the winner of the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024. She has also earned nominations for a BRIT Award, a Soul Train Music Award, a MOBO Award, and two South African Music Awards.
