A Tale Of Two Tails: Puppy Has Tail Growing Out Of Its Head

This doggy has a tale and it is a tale of two tails.

A puppy identified as Narwhal who is a recent rescue at Mac’s Mission Animal Rescue in Jackson, Missouri is not your every day pup as it has an extra appendage; on it’s head. The extra tail sprouting from it’s head has since prompted the nickname “unicorn puppy”.

According to Rochelle Steffen who is the founder of the rescue home, prospective owners looking to adopt the puppy have nothing to worry about the furry tail growing out of the pup’s head because it is a health puppy. She said:

“He had x-rays and a vet visit (Tuesday) and is a perfectly healthy puppy, with an extra tail on his face.”

Mac’s Mission, focuses on “special needs” dogs that require extra medical care due to birth defects, injuries or abuse. Steffen told The Washington Post. They rescue animals that might get euthanized elsewhere and then help them find permanent homes.

Rochelle says her staff found Narwhal, a Dachshund and Beagle mix recently at a dumpsite and took him in to help find him a forever home.

She adds the foretail doesn’t require surgery and doesn’t seem to be giving him any harm at the moment. It’s unclear what the growth is exactly, but it’s probably a mutation that occurred at birth. Whatever the cause, Narwhal’s deformity has brought unprecedented media attention to Mac’s Mission — along with dozens of offers to adopt their latest rescue.

Caregivers say he likes to nibble on fingers and give kisses and wants to play with anyone nearby

Whoever ends up with this pup will surely be like a dog with two tails (all pun intended) just considering how cute Narwhal looks.
