Taking viewers three decades into the future from the conclusion of the original hit show, Ripples, which aired on NTA in 1993, Ripples: New Generation plunges audiences into a gripping tale following the legacy of the late matriarch, Leslie Dehinde-Philips. The focal point of the story revolves around Doris, a young and extraordinary woman, who finds herself on the precipice of inheriting the immense Dehinde-Phillips fortune, including a staggering 75% share of DP Oil. Raised to assume the position of Chief Executive Officer, Doris appears destined for greatness. Yet, beneath her picture-perfect life, she longs for an intangible aspiration – freedom.
Regrettably, Doris’s dreams of liberation are abruptly shattered when a dramatic protest against DP Oil, spearheaded by the Elders of a Niger Delta Community, erupts. Determined to extricate herself from the predicament and pursue her desires, Doris unwittingly falls prey to the clutches of a ruthless corporate executive, harboring a desperate ambition to claim the CEO title. As her grandmother’s final will influences her decisions about freedom, Doris is left questioning every aspect of her existence.
Intriguingly, the series aims to shed light on the daunting challenges posed by oil spillage and its detrimental environmental consequences, the relentless struggle for emancipation, and the unwavering pursuit of success against all odds. Boasting a diverse ensemble cast, Ripples: New Generation showcases the immense talent of Tope Olowoniyan, who takes the lead as the resolute Doris Dehinde-Philips. Accompanying her are Daniel Abua, Vine Olugu, and Ian Wordi, portraying the characters of Elo Dehinde-Phillips, Alex, and Inspector Richard, respectively.
Notably, beloved veterans of the original series, including Alex Usifo, Barbara Soky, Emeka Ossai, and Keppy Ekpeyong-Bassey, will reprise their iconic roles as Talab Abass, Daphne Wellington-Cole, Wale Okoya, and Admiral (formerly Captain) Hassan. Joining the esteemed cast are the fresh faces of Debby Felix, Lexan Peters, Francis Onwochei, and Mena Sodje, who embody the spirit of the new generation.
The creative mastermind behind both Ripples and Ripples: New Generation, Zeb Ejiro, expressed his elation at the opportunity to bring his cherished series back to life. He enthused, “I feel so happy that we have been able to create Ripples: The New Generation because today we have made history. Ripples is the only TV series or soap opera that was done thirty years ago and is back again. No other program has been able to achieve this. Yet, we are doing a mix of the old and new generation. We are going to hold viewers hostage every Wednesday at 9 pm.”
The highly-anticipated watch party, expertly hosted by renowned On-Air Personality Ifunanya Igwe, boasted an impressive guest list that included esteemed personalities such as Fred Amata, Professor Shola Fosudo, Patrick Doyle, and Zeke Zulu
