Folakemi Falana, daughter of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, has strongly denied allegations of bribery and corruption involving her father and brother, rapper Falz, linked to Bobrisky’s alleged prison sentence. The allegations were made by social media self-styled activist, Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In a viral video, VDM claimed that some unnamed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accepted ₦15 million from Bobrisky to drop money laundering charges against him. Folakemi addressed the claims on Instagram, calling them baseless and defamatory.

“Two different letters from Falana & Falana on behalf of our clients Femi Falana SAN and Folarin Falz Falana giving VDM 24 hours to retract his extremely defamatory statements or risk legal action,” she wrote.

“It’s even crazier that all it takes is for a ridiculous character like VDM to accuse my dad and Falz of bribery, corruption, and perversion of the course of justice, and you suddenly forget who they are and what they stand for.”

Folakemi explained that rumours circulating online, which VDM amplified, falsely suggested that her family was complicit in helping Bobrisky secure favourable treatment while in prison. She also debunked claims that her father and brother were linked to an alleged attempt to bribe officers for a presidential pardon.

“My dad has never met or talked to Bobrisky, whether directly or via a proxy. Bobrisky reached out to Falz, the same way he reached out to many other celebrities, asking for money. The reason he gave was so that he could stay in the VIP section of prison. He never discussed a presidential pardon with him. He said he was reaching out from prison, Falz had no reason to believe otherwise,” she clarified.

Emphasising her family’s advocacy for presidential pardons free of charge, Folakemi stated that Bobrisky had never approached them for such assistance.

She said, “For the record, anyone can write the president to request a pardon for any convicted person in Nigeria. You don’t even need to be a lawyer to apply for a pardon. That said, Bobrisky never approached anyone in my family or our firm for a presidential pardon.”

Folakemi warned VDM to prepare for legal action, stating, “Seeing as you have refused to do the needful, @verydarkblackman, see you in court.”

EFCC Invites Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan

In response to the bribery allegations, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has ordered an immediate investigation.

The EFCC has invited Bobrisky and VDM to assist investigators in uncovering the truth behind the alleged ₦15 million bribe.

NBA Calls for Independent Probe

Also, The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Office of the National Security Adviser to independently investigate the allegations against EFCC officers.

The NBA insists that officers found guilty must be dismissed and prosecuted.
