Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described Makarios Water Display as a masterpiece and a sign of good things to happen in Nigeria, particularly Lagos State.

The governor, who spoke at the unveiling of the plaque, commended the visionary leadership of the investor, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo and the entire team for initiating the project, saying it’s about being an enabler of a greater thing to happen.

The governor, who urged Ashimolowo to replicate the same in parts of the state, such as Epe, Badagry, Ikeja, and Alimosho and not to be limited to Lekki or Ibeju Lekki only, said: “I am sure my people in Epe are waiting, my people in Badagry want it as well, my people in Ikeja and Alimosho want it as well. People in Igbogbo also say they don’t mind having it as well. The Ministry of Tourism will ensure that Lagos remains a safe, secure and investment destination in tourism. As the governor, I will come around and give you all the encouragement.”

Sanwo-Olu, however, promised to rehabilitate the roads in Lekki and Epe axis.
Meanwhile, Ashimolowo, while fielding questions from newsmen, narrated how he was inspired.

He said: “Makarios Water Show Place was a concept I saw in Dubai during COVID-19 when I was thinking of what to bring to Nigeria because my grandchildren were always bored whenever we came from abroad. It came to me that I could do something of legacy, be part of the solution, be part of the answer to this thing about people who wanted to come to a country like Nigeria but there is no tourism place.

I mean there is a lot we could do in Lagos. Obviously, I didn’t know it was going to be this costly but it has happened. We are ready for Nigeria, we are ready for the audience and people would be mesmerised by what they would see.”

The Makarios Water Display, which is situated in the vibrant district of Lekki, Nigeria, will be open to the public on June 15, 2024.
