Inaugurates committee to review civil service rules
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on the military to do everything within its capacity to secure the country’s democracy.
The governor made the call while hosting the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Ibadan, Maj-Gen. Mohammed Usman, who visited his office in Agodi, Ibadan.
Addressing his visitors, the governor eulogised various security outfits in Oyo for their professional conduct of handling crimes in the state, noting that they have really assisted in trying times.
The GOC, who took over from Maj-Gen. Aminu Chinade, led some officers of the division to Government House.
While pledging his administration’s support for the security agents to carry out their duties diligently, Makinde commended the impartial nature of the military, saying they still have more responsibilities to defend votes of the electorate during the next general elections.
Earlier, Usman had called for more support from the state government and its citizens in combating crimes, saying that it should be a collective responsibility.
IN another development, Makinde has inaugurated a committee on review of civil and public service rules to enable the service evolve thoroughly for efficiency and optimal performance.
The governor inaugurated the committee, yesterday, during a programme held in the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office.
Inaugurating the committee, Makinde explained that the committee was expected to synergise old experiences and contemporary standard practices to form new rules that would transform the service.
While noting that the current Oyo civil and public service rules were last reviewed in 2013, the governor stressed that no successful administration would allow its civil and public services drive policies of government without proper rules of engagement.
He tasked the committee to duly consider areas of conflicts or need for domestication between federal civil and public service rules and the state rules to create a reasonable pathway.
The committee, chaired by the former Head of Service (HoS) and Secretary to the State Government, Chief Adebisi Adesola, comprised representatives of the association of retired permanent secretaries and heads of service, representatives of Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as those of labour unions, private consulting, amongst others.
